The goal of the Probiotic Administration for Adolescent Depression Study is to see associations between the gut bacteria and brain in youth participants after an probiotic administration.
We are looking for participants aged 15–24 for our randomized control trial to try Visbiome (R), a multistrain-probiotic, or a placebo daily for 8 weeks alongside their current depression treatment (SSRIs, etc.). Participants will receive daily reminders to take their probiotic/placebo pill and have Zoom visits with the study team every two weeks.
Participants will undergo two MRI scans – one before and after the 8-week intervention. MRI Scans will take place at the UCSF facility located at Byers Hall in Mission Bay. Participants will receive up to $200 in gift cards for reaching completion checkpoints for the study.
Note that enrolled participants will be randomly assigned to the placebo or probiotics group, with an equal chance of being in either group. The study team contacting the participant and the participant themselves will not know who is in which group until completion of the entire study.
If interested, please check the PAD Screener survey for more information about the study and see if you’re potentially eligible to enroll. For any questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to [email protected], and a member of our team will get back to you.
